Inspiration and a shared direction
We began by reviewing existing designs and discussing the client’s needs. The starting point was a packraft that could connect cycling routes with journeys on the water.
CASE STUDY
A bicycle on land, a packraft on the water. Together with our client, we progressed from reviewing existing designs to a shared design, a prototype and, eventually, series production. This product developed through a long-term partnership.
01 / Project story
How could we develop a packraft for journeys where a bicycle travels with its rider on the water too? We focused on high buoyancy and a construction suited to this type of travel, from the first design to repeatable production.
02 / Project story
After reviewing international designs, we jointly developed the first pattern and built a prototype. The construction featured a specially shaped end with an inflatable keel. High buoyancy was a central objective, driven by the need to carry a bicycle. Further years of collaboration allowed us to develop the packraft and prepare it for series production.
03 / Project story
The first prototype grew into series production. A long-term partnership supported product development and manufacturing at WATS. The project shows how collaboration around a specific user need can lead to a lasting manufacturing relationship.
Step by step
We began by reviewing existing designs and discussing the client’s needs. The starting point was a packraft that could connect cycling routes with journeys on the water.
Together, we developed the first design and built a prototype. A distinctive feature was the specially shaped end incorporating an inflatable keel.
High buoyancy was a key design objective. Carrying a bicycle was central to the intended use and guided the development of the construction.
The project developed alongside our partnership and the growing interest in packrafting in Poland. The initial prototype led to further product development and preparation for production.
After several years of working together, we reached series production. The partnership supported product development and manufacturing at WATS.
